There are talks about Apple introducing a survivalist Apple watch for outdoor enthusiasts.
The entry might come with Apple’s flagship: series 7 smartwatch. The announcement date is uncertain and the release could be sometime in 2021-2022.
The Apple Watch is used by many outdoor sports enthusiasts including hikers, runners, swimmers and others. It’s about time Apple Watch gets a rugged version.
It seems the Cupertino company is working on a stronger variant of its smartwatch.
The new Apple Watch, which many dubs as “Explorer edition”, will house a rubber exterior as opposed to the present more scratch and damage attracting aluminium, titanium and steel body. Apple is also working on new swim-tracking features.
The present Apple Watch indeed offers plentiful features for outdoor activities such as GPS, emergency services and more. It is not a preferred choice for dedicated bickers, hikers, and rock climbers.
As there are more durable and better water, scratch and temperature resistant watches in the market.
Some watches also have mind-boggling battery timing. Take for instance the Garmin Enduro. The watch lasts 365 days(yes, 1 year) in the battery optimised saving mode.
It’s expected that Apple’s sports watch will be more expensive than the upcoming series 7 watch. As the current sports watches like the Garmin Fenix 6 and Enduro are not cheap.
The Apple Watch is part of Apple’s wearables and home-based accessories’ category which generated more than $30 billion in its last fiscal year.
Besides iPhones, it is Apple’s most successful product category.
According to Counterpoint research, Apple Watch covers 40% of the smartwatch market as of the final quarter of 2020.
