Apple’s Mixed Reality headset might set the stage in 2022.

Apple Headset

Kuo suggests that Apple might launch its Mixed Reality headset by 2022, Augmented Reality Glasses by 2025. And AR contact lenses by 2030.

Reported by MacRumors: The prolific Apple analyst Ming Ching Kuo has written in a research note with TF Securities that Apple is planning to introduce a headset that’ll offer both Augmented reality and Virtual reality experience.

“We predict that Apple’s MR/AR product roadmap includes three phases: helmet type by 2022, glasses type by 2025, and contact lens type by 2030–2040,” wrote Kuo. “We foresee that the helmet product will provide AR and VR experiences, while glasses and contact lens types of products are more likely to focus on AR applications.”

According to Kuo; the Mixed Reality headset will be portable and run independently on its power and storage. However, it won’t be purely mobile like the iPhone. Though, as technology grows, the headset will attain the iPhone’s mobility.

Apple’s helmet type headset will offer a significantly better and immersive experience than what the current VR headsets are providing.

The information reported that the headset would offer ultra-high-resolution 8K displays and advanced technology for eye tracking, with dozen of cameras for tracking head movements, showing the video of the real world to the person wearing it.

Apple’s MR headset’s prototypes weigh around 200-300 grams. However, Kuo says, that if Apple handles the technical problems, the headset could weigh between 100-200 grams. Concerning the price, the headset might cost 1000$; the cost of a hi-end iPhone.

Other than the MR headset, Kuo says, Apple is working on two AR focused devices. One is the Apple Glass which the Cupertino company might launch in 2025. The second being the AR contact lenses which is expected to arrive between 2030-2040.
