As of July 29, 2023, there are several rumors and speculations surrounding the release of the M3 MacBook Air. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is currently developing 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models with the M3 chip, with an expected release in 2024. However, in 2023, Apple introduced a new 15.3-inch version of the MacBook Air that uses the same design but with a larger display size.
The M3 MacBook Air is anticipated to be a significant upgrade from its predecessors, with a 40% increase in power due to the M3 chip being built using a 3nm process, allowing for more transistors to be fitted onto the same small silicon. This is a substantial improvement from the M2 chip, which was built on a 5nm process. The M3 chip is also expected to offer a 15% speed improvement and up to 30% power reduction, leading to faster performance and longer battery life.
The design of the M3 MacBook Air is expected to remain consistent with the ultra-slim, utilitarian look of the previous models, as Apple tends to stick to certain aesthetics for a couple of generations. The uniform thickness and motif inspired by the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros have been well-received, and it is hoped that the M3 Air will continue this style.
As for the release date, a report suggested that the new Air might launch in October, alongside a new 13-inch MacBook Pro and iMac. The price of the current MacBook Air starts at $1,199, and it would be surprising if this cost were to increase for the 13-inch model. However, these details are yet to be confirmed by Apple.
